My Journey

My first stop was Siem Reap in November 2017. Exploring the city on foot and visiting the floating village on the Tonle Sap lake was a real insight into this interesting country. Without a doubt ticking (often called the Eighth wonder of the world) Angkor Wat off my bucket list was a true highlight. Seeing it at sunrise was such a unique and overwhelming experience, along with visiting Ta Promh, Bayon, Angkor Thom and the lesser known Ta Nei, Preah Palilay and the Preah Khan temples.

Next was the countryside town of Battambang. Driving around on a Tuk Tuk seeing how locals live and work in this slow paced picturesque town felt like I got a true insight into local life.

Phnom Penh. The capital has a lot to offer in terms of history. Learning about the genocide visiting the Killing Fields and S21 museum was shocking and a real eye opener, all made too real by meeting people who’s family were killed or tortured there. However the Cambodians have an amazing outlook and want to share their stories in order to prevent it from ever happening again.

The seaside town of Kep and riverside town of Kampot were the ideal tranquil places to unwind after the hectic city of Phnom Penh. Admiring the scenery and appreciating the serenity of these places was a real treat. Enjoying local crab and exploring the river by rowing boat were wonderful.

After being on the go for a while it was time to go to the super tranquil island of Koh Rong. With its pristine white sand beaches almost empty and calm waters it was the perfect way to relax and end this trip in the most interesting country I have ever visited.
